Declare
“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.”
- Psalm 91:1-2 NLT
“Sometimes when we serve, some people can think too highly of themselves. But there’s an opposite side to evaluating yourself. And it’s probably something that’s just as pervasive in a church our size. For some of you, the problem is not that you think of yourself more highly than you ought, but you don’t think of yourself very highly at all.”
- Pastor Tony Walliser
What is it that we declare about the Lord?
Do we, like David, declare that “He alone is my refuge, my place of safety”?
Do we declare that “He is my God, and I trust him”?
We may say those statements in our minds, say them in our heart of hearts, even say them out loud for all to hear, but do our actions match our declarations?
If I say that I trust in the Lord, but my life is riddled with worry and self-doubt, what does that declare about my faith in Jesus?
When we make a declaration on how much we thank God for the gifts, for the talents, for the victories in life and then begin to pound our chest, as if to say, “Look at me. Look what I have accomplished. Look what I have done,” what does that declare about me and my God?
I’m not saying that we shouldn’t publicly make our declarations. I just think maybe we need to follow those declarations up with actions that point back to the Most High.
Maybe we should live what you say you believe.
